going to school and UC
Here we go again!
I swear unemployment has more loops, boops and bops than anything in this world.
Last month we (the unemployed) received a letter. It encourage us to goto school. I had received a call from a UCworker. In this phone call, I mention attending school in the new year.
*dropping the needle on the record*
UC works says I have to flag your account for school in 2010. Huh? Why? School can enable you to seek a job. Huh? How? You would not seek a job while in school. *insert roll the eyes* Are you serious? School is no longer 8am to 8pm. School is24/7. You can go online, on the weekend or @10pm at nite. Florida is a 24/7 type of place. If u can find employment, you can balance school and a job.
What do I say always write? So who did I write? Yep! i wrote the director over Fla-AWI. She did not return a letter to me. One of her assistants called and left me a voicemail, she was so clueless. I shook my head to the message. Next write the dept of labor and ask Why are we being flag for attending school. IF we are submitting job searches with our claims for unemployment, we are looking for job.
It feels good to have an actual job with real money. Again we are not sitting fat off of $275.00 a week. When I tell folks about our uc benefits. They are like really. How do you survive on that? You dont! I replied. Those of us receiving UC benefits for them.
But,we do not wish to treated ignorantly. More Folks are unemployed in Fla.
Hopefully, we can survive this mess.

I’ll say it again
Do not work for a Temp company on unemployment. It will cause you such a heartache and headache..
Save your documentation per email and phone logs on cell phone. Print it out. Set up your sent option on email.
Remain friendly or civil to the UC workers. When you are called by UC worker do not divulge any extra information such as sick, pending surgery or attention to goto school.. This will flag your account.
God is in control! I pray my sanity will maintain in these times.

Dear Floridian Unemployed Brothers and Sisters!
Each day, We struggle with finding a job or supporting ourselves. We have collectors on our heels, not receiving unemployment checks in a timely manner, shidd wrestling with unemployment office , hiding our cars from the Repo man ( I was in one neighborhood,yesterday.. Repo mens was no joke.. so many of them) and trying to stay sane in this Florida economy! No one really wants to be on unemployment. But, we need the help.
There is another bill on table to extend unemployment 13 weeks.
Write your House Representative and Congress person about your plight.. Those of us without Health insurance, We really need to write!
Let Crist and your Fla. representative know, Florida needs to rethink its place in the world. Tourism is great. But, When folks up north and abroad dont have $$ to visit. We dont have jobs. It’s a domnino effect!
Please write!

Ha Ha! Work search sheet
Get your list together of jobs that you have applied for …
Yes, they have added it to the list of questions. Geesh! They could have done this all along. Folks losing their minds because the check did not come in the mail. They could have sent emails or letter to UC claimants asking for work search list. Make sure that you apply for 2 jobs a week. If you have trouble remembering who you sent your resume to .. set your sent setting up on your email system.
During the week ending did you look for work as instructed by this agency and will you list your contacts later in this certification process as tangible evidence? Please note: the first two weeks you claim for Extended Benefits do not require you to list your work search contacts
If you work for a temp company, your assignment ends. The next day email and call that temp company to save you some tears. You have to notified them that you are still available. This is how some people lose their benefits. You need to have documentation that you have called them. Trust me! When you call the temp agencies, you should document who you talk to, time , and job offer or no job offer. If you turn down a job or temp job, God Bless. You better have an absolute reason such as another job. Sick is not a good reason. Remember, you have to be employable.
UC is not entitlement. Ya’ll know we getting fat off of these checks. We are going Asia and Honolulu on $275.00. *insert roll of the eyes*
UC checks, I would not bet on them. The slightest thing could flag your account. I would not write a check till the money is actually in the bank. At 1st, the check would come the next day. Shoot, it’s coming 2 days later. Nah! I would not bet on it.
I think, When this is over. I’m writing a nice letter to department of labor and Florida AWI-UC. This is the craziest thing that I’ve ever experience in UC benefits. Prayfully I’ll never be on UC again. But you know what they say about never.
Lastly, Please be nice to those UC workers. They dont make much money. They do not make the rules. Even those with jobs are struggling too.

Just a hint!
If your check is not in your account by said date, you need to get on the phone to Tally.

flags, no checks, on extension Florida unemployment
While reading the Orlando Sentinel…. I found this article.. I was like huh.. Why they could not send us a letter stating? Dear Dummy? send us a list of jobs of last months. All us know UC is not an entitlement program. But, they could have sent us an email or heads up about the job search. I need to type mine up and fax it over to Tally.. Goodness Grief.. Depression is a mofo!
To the folks who had their bills to come out expecting UC to be on time. Umm, you cant rely on UC for nothing..

Some Floridians’ jobless checks delayed; tightened eligibility requirements run counter to federal advisory
Jim Stratton
Sentinel Staff Writer

UPDATE: 9:30 a.m. Saturday:
Deep in the state’s FAQ on extended benefits, the state says that after July 25, work-search activity must be verified before a payment will be sent. But folks who have been receiving benefits say that’s not been done until this week and that the state provided them no heads up. They also say customer service representatives and managers who process claims told them they were just recently instructed to do the verifications before sending the checks.
Unemployment checks to jobless Floridians have been delayed because the state appears to have tightened its eligibility rules in recent weeks.
It is now requiring that the job-search activities of people receiving so-called extended benefits be verified by state workers before a benefits check is sent. That runs counter to a U.S. Department of Labor advisory that specifically said “it is not practical” to do so.
The practice, according to those waiting for checks, delays payments by several days and was enacted, they say, with no notice.
Robin Moon of east Orlando said an agency worker told her this week that her check was late because workers had been instructed to review the job-search activities of everyone receiving extended benefits — about 85,000 people statewide. Extended benefits are the latest round of emergency benefits approved by the Florida Legislature in May.
“She said everything had to be checked,” Moon said. “That just seems impossible.” Federal officials acknowledge as much.
A May advisory from the Labor Department stated that checks can be issued before job-search evidence has been verified because “it is not practical for states” to do otherwise.
The advisory says state officials must periodically review a “reasonable sample” of job-search evidence after checks have been sent. If they discover then that a recipient is not looking for work, he or she can be denied benefits.
A spokesman for the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation said the state was following federal law by verifying work-search activities. He said he was unaware of the Labor Department advisory and did not know when Florida began requiring verification before unemployment checks were issued.
Recipients, however, say it has started only in the past week or so. Many noticed the change after checks did not show up in their bank accounts on the days they expected. They insist the state gave them no notice.
“There was never any notification — nothing,” said Nancy Mandowa of Hollywood. “It’s not their normal process.”
Other benefits recipients say they were told checks were delayed because of confusion over what sort of job-search activities are acceptable.
State guidelines encourage claimants to look for work through a combination of methods, such as Internet searches, phone calls, job fairs and face-to-face meetings. Although those suggestions do not appear to be requirements for eligibility, some state workers appear to be interpreting them as such.
Andrew Stettner, deputy director of the National Employment Law Project, a worker advocacy group, said Florida’s “heavy-handed approach” was “disappointing.” He was particularly critical of reports that the state was delaying payments until job-search paperwork had been reviewed.
He said there are too many people receiving — and depending on — extended benefits for such a policy to run smoothly.
“This is one of the worst cases I’ve heard,” Stettner said.
Most checks have been delayed for only several days, but for many people that’s too long.
Unemployment recipients are living week to week, timing bill payments with the arrival of their checks. Moon, for example, expected her check to arrive no later than Tuesday of this week. On Wednesday, money was automatically withdrawn from her bank account to cover her power bill and car payment. When the unemployment check didn’t show up, she was hit with a $200 penalty.
“That’s really the last thing I need,” said Moon, a laid-off credit counselor. “I mean, they’re playing with people’s lives here.”

July 1, 2008, I was laid off. Here it is July 2009. It’s been a yr. What has changed? Financially challenged?Yes? Still Smart and Beautiful? Yes oh and Hell Yes? (Fatter too!!) lol
I work a part time job. I’m in the process of going to LPN school. I let God drive.. I’m just riding “shot gun” with him. I’m thankful! I’ve had some tears, screams and laughs in this yr.
Things have really changed in this economy. I’m really curious. What will be the outcome of this “mass destruction” called the recession.
But I keep striving for the top! *singing* While your moma say .. give it all you got.. aint no half stepping!!!

adult
Well being an adult sucks!, somedays. I’ve sd it once.. I’ll say again..
Where have I been?
*clicking my Salvation Army red ruby slippers*
I remember that I was volunteering in Winter 08. I told this lady about my laid off status. She said well you need to be prepare to lose an apartment, lose a car or lose… (fill in blank).. I raised my eyebrow and said “hmm”
I lost my internet access at home. lol
I’m holding onto the other things tho’.
Currently, I am working as a part time temp collector. I’m not hard core as some. I’m in no position to “ack” a fool with anyone. I know, I have my own issues with my bills. I let the customer x,y,x and go thru the script. Yea or nay, they can the bill with me. As of yet, no one has cussed me out. Maybe, they have hung up on me. But it’s no big deal to me!
Currently, I’m trying to find another part time or full time job. Funny, how they are plenty of part time jobs. These companies want to pay low pay and expect full time part time.

Phone vs internet
Florida unemployment claims.. When you are doing a new or submitting your claim. It is best to do it over the phone. Have your dates, wages and what not ready.. How do I know? I had to redo a claim. I did it per internet. I called back the next day and was told .. It has to cycle through the system. I was so angry and tired about UC. I sd Oh and hung up.
I called today and asked What’s the time frame for cycle? She sd one week to 2 weeks.
Huh?
But the phone claims processing takes 24 hrs to 72hrs. Why? as you speak your information in the voicemail. You speak to a live agent at the end of the call.
Huh?
Wouldn’t the internet be faster than phone system? No, the phone has a live agent to verify and push the button. I guess, I said. As, I shook my head in disgrace.
Most of the AWI-UC workers are nice. They emphasize with your situation. So please be respectful to them. They did not create this mess!
I pray this economy turns around soon. This is so crazy.

$8.50hr
I had my 1st phlebotomy interview today. *gulp*
The interview was at a donor plasma place. I was excited at 1st. When I realise the distance. I was hmm!! ok! Well !! How could I work this out?
Initially, I was to have an interview with director. She passed me onto the asst mgr. She did not introduce herself, nor shake hands.. H1n2 or R2D2 flu or not.. I’m cool with it!
We are talking about the job. I received the vitals about the job. They expect you to turn around the chair(quickly), you to work overtime and you to be a slave. Wow! Benefits and Bonuses sound good. No scrub clothing allowance
The asst mgr sd We pay $8.50 hr. We want ppl to stay for longevity! She they certify and train you for the Donor plasma job. Therefore, this justified the low ass pay.. So she tried selling me on this place. Well, you could always use this as jump off to another job. I thought ya’ll wanted longevity. *looking at her sideways*
*singing*
Have I stepped into the Twilight Zone?
*chirping*
My face went spasmistic!
Asst mgr asked Would I have a problem? Hell to the yes ! Gas is rising again. Rent is always the same. I cant even cover my bills with that mess.
HOld up.. Fla mininium wage is $7.21. I still could collect unemployment check and double dip like the Fla Fat Cats.. lol
They could have said $8.50 hr on the phone. My interview was over 15 minutes. Asst mgr told me to think it over and call her next week. Asst mgr went directly to Director’s office. As I left the laboratory.
*Tumbleweeds are rolling*
At least my phlebotomy instructor was correct about something.. Stay away from Donor plasma places. Wow!
