Why is Education important? I wanna rap!

October 10, 2008 smileswch

When I use to teach lifeskills, ethics  and character education in a public middle school. Most of the males said I’m going to be a rapper or ball player. So, I do not need to know lifeskills, character education or none of this shish in middle school.  I would give examples of famous ball players, actors or rappers who lost a lot of money or freedom. Why they did not have savvy of business, commonsense (not Common..even tho’ I would like to savvy him) or 3R’s?

One student told me that their lawyer or accountant will handle those affairs. So, you gonna be like Bill Cosby and be scammed by his accountant for thousands. He goes onto tell me that his cousin was signed by T.I. We are about to “blow” up!  I looked at him  like huh! We!  Your cousin sign with T.I. So what he signed do you know how many people get signed. But, they are still working at Mickey D’s. If you aint hustling like Luda was, you not going anywhere! Take some business law classes!

I’m not the killer of dreams. But I wanted him to know that you have to work for it. The most successful rappers worked hard to maintain.. LL Cool J! Will Smith, Common, Ice Cube, Mc Lyte, Queen Latifah.

He looked at me like Whoa!

I read this blog from this music marketer and promoter.

ahhhhhhh students always have excuses. I think we need to deliver them that if you have some manners for others then other will definitely respect you. Respecting others can can you respect in return. If you are a famous Raper and you dont have any manners and respect for others so public will not love you and wont give you that respect which you deserve. So character education is very important.
